All of the Osteopath's at the Richmond Osteopathic Clinic graduated from Victoria University in Melbourne, undertaking a five year double degree (Bachelor of Science and a Master of Health Science – majoring in Osteoapthy). This extensive training has resulted in a thorough knowledge base, with emphasis placed upon anatomy, physiology, bio-chemistry and biomechanics; along with the mechanism of injuries sustained to the musculo-skeletal system, and the appropriate treatment and management of these injuries.
Andrew Clarke BSc(ClinSc) MHSc(Osteo) MAOA
Andrew graduated in 2005 from Victoria University where he completed a Masters degree in Spinal Joint Manipulation. Since completing his studies he has worked in several multi-disciplinary practices in Melbourne, and been a senior Osteopath at the Richmond Osteopathic Clinic for the past three years. Andrew has completed post-graduate studies in Advanced Spinal Manipulation; Core Strengthening Techniques; Sports Injury Treatment and Rehabilitation. Andrew’s treatment sessions include a thorough history and examination, diagnosis, treatment and management of your condition. When treating your condition, Andrew considers all relevant aspects including workplace posture and ergonomics, sleeping habits and sporting/leisure activities to accurately diagnose and treat the cause of your condition.
Sarah Smith BSc(ClinSc) MHSc(Osteo) MAOA
Sarah graduated from Victoria University with a Master’s degree in Osteopathy. She has extensive knowledge and experience in the treatment of neck and shoulder pain, lower back pain, headaches & migraines, sports and work related injuries. During her undergraduate studies, Sarah majored in the osteopathic treatment of pregnant women, hence has a thorough understanding in their treatment and management. Sarah has also completed a Specialist Certificate in Pilates for Rehabilitation, making her a leader in the field in diagnosing and treating lumbar and pelvic instability. Sarah is a passionate and skilled Osteopath, using a holistic approach to treatment where she incorporates a broad selection of techniques. With treatment, she aims to understand each person’s needs and expectations to create a treatment approach suitable to your needs.
Anthony Murphy BSc(ClinSc) MHSc(Osteo) MAOA
Anthony Murphy completed his Masters of Osteopathy at Victoria University, Melbourne, having previously graduated from undergraduate degrees in both Human Biology and Osteopathy. Anthony has worked in multiple private practice clinics both interstate and overseas and with professional dancers, musicians, and football and hockey teams. He is skilled in treating all age groups, from children to the elderly. He has a particular interest in sport-related injuries, healthy lifestyle choices and treating occupational aches and pains. He has completed post-graduate courses in assessment and treatment of rib dysfunction, breathing dynamics and dysfunction, joint manipulation, sports medicine injury diagnosis, balanced ligamentous tension (BLT) techniques, cranio-sacral therapy and dry needling.
Emila Howley BSc(ClinSc) MHSc(Osteo) MAOA
Emila graduated from Victoria University in Melbourne with a Master’s in Osteopathy. Emila's caring and empathetic personality is evident in her approach to Osteopathy. She enjoys treating the wide variety of musculo-skeletal conditions that present to Osteopaths, effectively assessing, diagnosing, and treating patient’s and ensuring they receive the best quality of care. Emila is herself a keen health and fitness enthusiast, able to advise on ways manage pain and discomfort, and to minimize recurrence of symptoms.
Daniel Surkitt BSc(ClinSc) MHSc(Osteo) MAOA
Daniel has been practicing as an Osteopath for more than thirteen years, bringing extensive experience to the clinic. During his training he majored in Cervical Spine (neck) Manipulation. He has practiced both here in Melbourne and in the UK. In London, Daniel co-ordinated the Sports Injury and Management Clinic at the British School of Osteopathy. He has also lectured at Victoria University in Osteopathic examination and treatment, and Spinal Manipulation. He has vast treating experience, specialising in acute spinal complaints and sports related injuries.
All our osteopaths are registered with APHRA and are members of the Australian Osteopathic Association. Osteopaths also participate in Continued Professional Development (CPD), to ensure excellence in osteopathic care.
